Here at Halteman Family Meats our aim is to give our customers a true “Butcher Shop” experience. If you’re looking for something outside the usual run of the mill supermarket meat case you’ve come to the right place.
Lester Halteman first opened his meat stand in Reading Terminal Market in 1917. His goal was always to provide the best possible selection of fresh and smoked meats for his many customers. Although the Halteman family sold the stand to the Riehls years ago, keeping that tradition has been important to us as well. The Riehl family roots run deep in rural Lancaster County, and you’ll experience an old time “country” feel when you come visit us in the heart of Philly.
Our utmost goal is to keep YOU, the customer happy! You will notice our meats are carefully trimmed and ready to put directly on your hot grill or stovetop. We sell all the popular cuts; in addition, we also carry some unique, hard to find items. So, whether you have a hankering for some prime beef, lean turkey breast, scrapple, our own home-smoked hickory bacon, or any of our other home-smoked products we’ve got you covered. One of our more recent additions has been dry aged beef, aged to perfection right at our stand. Sink your teeth into a flavorful, juicy steak for an experience you’ll never forget.
Our “Butcher Shop” pledge carries through to our online sales as well. When you open your box of meats you will notice nothing is ever vacuum sealed. You will find it wrapped in butcher paper, just like you’d pick it up from our store. After all, if you order fresh meat from us, it should be just that…FRESH.
